XM2 AU Hollywood production crew heading to Gold Coast’s Global Drone Show
An Australian drone company whose credits include James Bond, Mission: Impossible and Fast & Furious is bringing a behind-the-scenes look at blockbuster filmmaking to the Gold Coast.
XM2 AU production manager Aaron Corera will be at Coolangatta Beach on Tuesday, eight days before the Global Drone Show opens at Cbus Super Stadium, to discuss the Australian expertise helping Hollywood capture its big-screen action.
Corera has overseen XM2 projects across Australia and overseas, including work on all three franchises. The company’s credits also include Pirates of the Caribbean and Lion.
With bases in Australia, the UK, Canada and South Korea, XM2 has flown drones on every continent. Its work spans film and television, live sports broadcasts and capturing data for visual effects.
Corera’s job is to turn a filmmaker’s brief into a smoothly run production, coordinating crews and equipment across locations around the world.
He will join the Global Drone Show’s film and entertainment panel on Friday, November 13, exploring how drones are changing what filmmakers can capture and what audiences see on screen.

The session, A New Point of View – Drones and the Reinvention of Film and Entertainment, will be moderated by Oscar-nominated Elvis producer and Bazmark Productions managing director Schuyler Weiss.
Joining Corera are Emmy-winning producer Dan Walkington, head of originals and partner at Emmy Award winning Australian company Butter Media, and Duncan Jones, founder and CEO of Gold Coast-based Myriad Studios, which creates detailed digital doubles and environments for film and gaming.
Hollywood is just one part of the three-day show, running November 11–13, with robot dogs, humanoid robots, agricultural drones, air taxis and an Airspeeder electric racing aircraft among the technology visitors can see up close.
An international exhibition will bring together drones, robotics and autonomous technology across air, land and sea, while the Aviation Australia Drone Zone will host live demonstrations on the stadium field, relayed to the big screen.
The Congress will explore everything from flying taxis and farming to defence, disaster response, conservation, mining, construction and sport. Keynote speakers include Christine Holgate, Ukraine’s Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko and investor Steve Baxter, with Future Invest pitch sessions connecting innovators and investors.
On Friday, Griffith University’s Future Careers Day with Defence Kidz will give school students hands-on experience with drone components, coding, flight simulation and mission planning, alongside advice on careers in the sector.
Take a look at the program and be sure to catch Aaron Corera on Friday afternoon.
